It isn't stated explicitely, but one can infer that the amazons were made warriors because the goddesses expected a pushback from some areas of mankind, like those in power that could feel their status quo threatened by the amazons, which happened. So they created the amazons with several goals in mind, as a way to show the mortals the might of Olympus, so they didn't stop worshipping them, also to spread a message of peace to the mortals through the amazons, and prevent the possible future destruction of civilization via continuous war and war scalation, and also for the amazons to be an example about women empowerment and show that women can be strong too, spreading a message of equality between men and women. In the Post-Crisis reboot, they were created as a race of super women by a group of goddesses that feared that the continuous wars perpetuated by men and the scalation of these, could lead to the destruction of the human civilization, which in turn would mean the destruction of Olympus and the gods, because they were dependent of human worship. The greek were pretty misogynistic, so for them, women who could lead a civilization and could fight, should be savages even more warmongering than the men, so Marston changed that to them being civilized and peaceful, but still be able to defend themselves. In the Golden Age, the Amazons were warriors because they were based on the greek myth of the amazons, but Wonder Woman amazons are a subversion of that myth. The outfit of Diana having explicitely the colors of the USA has been stopped being used since then anyway, Diana doesn't have white in her costume anymore, and there isn't a reference to USA colors in the 2017 movie, not in Rebirth and since then, as far as I know. He also wrote a very convoluted explanation about why Diana wore USA colors that involved the mother of Steve Trevor, called Diana, being also an army pilot, and also ending in Themyscira during a mission. Perez erased all those elements when he made the Post-Crisis reboot, and made the amazons stuck in the bronze age, but some of those elements came back through the years one way or another. Diana wore USA colors because it was the place she was going to visit when she would get Steve back. In the Golden Age, the Amazons had sci-fi technology, like a healing purple ray and invisible jets, and had a magical sphere/mirror that let them look into the oudside world, even through time.
